ESS102H1 Lecture Notes - Sinkhole, Rock Cycle, Igneous Rock
Document Summary
Study mines, diamonds, they can also search for groundwater: for example they can also dig into the ground to build the subway, and they locate what type of sediment is located underground. They also look for sand and oil. Environmental geologists clean up the mess made by others. Creates rich soil, and affects people in a negative and a positive way. Flooding bring in nutrients, this in turn is good for farming. There are geologic reasons why mines are placed where they are. Used to be huge mountains: metamorphic rock does not melt. Gets hot when under pressure but does not melt. Sinkhole: hole that opens up underground: can be manmade, can also be due to a certain type of rick such as limestone. Limestone is affected by slightly acidic water; it will erode. Any type of rock that if heated and pushed enough an be turned into metamorphic rock.
