Document Summary

Challenges to the sustainable management of private forests in central ontario. Multi-use = more than one activity going on. Private land = own the property, not own by government, do what they want. Stewardship = interested in doing more than benefitting selves, and shareholders. Ontario does have very good harvesting standards in the world. But in private, a lot of aspects that we haven"t figured out. If there"s something to do that makes wood grow faster so we can cut is faster, we"ll do it. What"s the difference between iowa corn and ontario maple. Dendrometer can see how much tree grows (in microns) in response to cutting, planting, weather etc. Some trees worth a lot, some trees worth negative amount. Facilitate higher value tree growth by getting rid of low value trees. Heartwood not valuable because dark and considered a stain. High carbon content (= displace fossil fuel products)
