She contrasts this story with the story of adam and eve: The story of adam, once they get kicked out, they must extract survival from the earth. It is the creation of this hierarchy where man rules over nature. This shows the western worldview of separation of nature and man. There is very clearly a reciprocal relationship where the turtle rescues sky woman, the muskrat dies trying to help her, which shows that we actively work with the earth for survival. There is abundance in nature, to use and respect as gifts. A gift brings with it an obligation to give back. This shows the indigenous view of creating an engaging relationship with nature. Skywoman is our ancestral gardener, a co-creator of the world that would be the home of her descendants. The other was an exile, just passing through an alien world on a rough road to her real home in heaven.
