What"s fascinating of how america viewed these events- they believed that they were on the cutting edge of constitutionalism. In europe, they saw the vindication of american ideas in revolutions; ignoring that the revs were crushed after this. In 1848, america has made claims in mexico. But this did not quench the thirst for expansion. Spanish possession and more imp it was a slave holding island.
