Socialists and the woman question: 1848 revolutions, feminism the new woman. Mass politicization: most european societies aren"t fully democratic yet, but it"s getting there even if not everyone has right to vote opposition to domestic ideology and republican motherhood, demand more rights. New woman towards women"s emancipation: rejected domestic ideology, a lot less confined to private sphere, heavily criticized, working-class women"s activism. New forms of labour organizations: workers groups and mutual aid societies improve living conditions and conditions of motherhood alarmed men and women from bourgeoisie horrified respectified middle classes seen as threat to social order: mutual aid: Provided assistance to members who have fallen in hard times. Workers contributed small part of income to mutual aid society. Very few womens organizations, existed in large manufacturing towns (lyons, birmingham) short lived. Limited in numbers showed how difficult it was for working class women to give up a small part of their income.
