Liberalism was a reaction against terror and radical phase of french revolution. 19th century liberalism was most beneficial for middle class. Liberalism had necessary implication to the economic system we more or less see today. Liberalism was a result of a legacy and lessons drawn from the french revolution. At heart of liberalism was the idea of liberty. Liberty is the right to do whatever the law permits. Modern liberty is the peaceful enjoyment of individual or private independence. Liberty means obedience to the law we prescribe to ourselves. Became a defining force of european life, a challenge of previous political views. System of surveillance was needed to be created, in order to control the rise of liberals: negative conception of freedom freedom from, not freedom to(against anyone s interference)
