Patriotism to city is always present within these cities, however it is not secular but quite religious ex. God feels strongly about your city: this is exemplified by having many religious shrines, statues, churches, etc all over the city, ex. they become very important in these cities b/c it shows that the city is religious and that can cares for the city and is present within it. Patriotism is often about the whole city and coexists with the officer. In the heart of every city there is a place where everything and everyone comes together the center of the city (include main church, court house, university, city hall, etc) (ex. Bologna, florence: they do this for convenience and b/c it would be consider neutral space where all neighborhoods can come together. this is where all the most important buildings are located: this place becomes the place you want to control (while maintaining, defending, or seizing power)
