Document Summary

The colonies, by the 1750s, were largely incorporated. At this point, many colonists were proud to be apart of the british empire. Moving to the new colonies had provided them with much prosperity. For the most part, although they were regulated, it was not in some way that cut into their pro ts in a noticeable way. All in all, they were happy to be a part of the british. They identi ed themselves with britain and not as a distinct entity. Britain, itself, scheduled a conference in albany. They invited colonists as well as natives from the iroquois. The goal of the conference was to prevent an outbreak of war between the french, british, and natives in the ohio river valley over contested land claims. During the conference, benjamin franklin proposed a plan of union for the colonies (the albany plan).
