Map on first slide is not the same before look at slides. Technically before 1911 there was no country called china. The areas were subject to changing rules over the centuries. They had centres, areas of stable control around them, but no clear distinction between states. We can only approximate their areas of control. These two types of sources tell very different stories of the history of china, there is no archaeology before the 20th century. therefore sometimes the 2 evidences don"t match up. Archeology tells us that before 3000 years ago china looked around like the diagram on slide.
