HIS280Y1 Lecture : Mandate of Heaven
Document Summary
Some historians regarded the zhou as a different kind of people because they tried to incorporate several different kinds of cultures. The zhou still used human sacrifices but not as many as the shun. Conceived as so powerful that even the kings only communicated to them through their ancestors. Unlike the shun, the zhou did not believe that heavenly divinations interacted directly with humans. Looked upon the stars for divinations; believed the placement of the stars would impact the human realm (astrology) The placement of the stars would influence how the human world was structured and functioned.
