By having the games and honouring the gods they hoped to win victory in war from the gods. Games consisted of chariot races and plays. Games were privately funded, they were done in public to enhance them. It was apart of the funerals of important roman aristocrats. The games were arranged by the sons of the ex consoles. The frequency of the gladiatorial games and their popularity increased over time. The death of the gladiators kept the mortality and history of the aristocrat. The games became so popular, more and more important romans began to get the gladiators to interest the public. Gladiators would be used as bodyguards and used during the civil war.
