Socialism is difficult to define; many definitions in the modern world are extremely varied. All professed socialists believe within the capitalist system, there has been economic and social exploitation of other human beings. Social democrats all believe the solution is in a mixed economy, where central industries are owned by the state and everything else, while private, is regulated and targeted to meet social goals. Marx argued for the abolition of all private property to achieve a resolution. Karl marx (1818-1883) was born in 1818 to a family of influential rabbis. Marx"s father became a lawyer and had a material influence away from religion. Trier had been a part of prussia and enjoyed great influences. Karl marx was accepted into a private academy in trier and was taught poetry and humane letters. In 1836, marx left university and transferred to the university of berlin. University of berlin was unconventional and the professors were different as well.
