The triple alliance came to an end after wwii. For the last 300 years, it always took a great effort to dismantle an alliance. Three main schools of thought on the cold war historiography. Traditional historians in the 50s who knew little of the ussr, only of stalin, never saw any ussr and took usa government actions for their face value. Universally blamed the ussr for the collapse of the grand alliance and the beginning of the cold war. Also blamed for the massive loss of lives. The cold war cost 10 trillion dollars and lasted 50 years. Revisionist view new wave 15-20 years into the cold war (early 70s) Americans who travelled to moscow, and had access to soviet documents. Pointed a finger towards the usa wanted to spread capitalism as well as its own ideology and that started the cold war. In the late 80s, there was an unprecedented freedom in moscow.
