Monroe doctrine came up because of the revolutions of 1820, france wanted to intervene in the spanish affairs, including latin america. By the beginning of the 20th century, there was a new development. European claimed in latin america due to economic reasons. If they couldn"t pay the debt, they had justification to go in, take it over and rule over it. To prevent such a development, they created the roosevelt corollary. Roosevelt corollary gave the usa the ability to intervene in latin. American affairs to allow for viable economics and government. They could go into these states and take over themselves. Between 1904-1930, six times they invoked that corollary.
