HIS357Y1 Lecture 2: HIS 357 September 23
Document Summary
How does the theme reflect in the reading, and how does it complicate it. Keep in my mind it was written for early moderns so what are they trying to communicate to them which we in the 21st cent wouldn"t immediately pick up on. Gender provided order, what men and women can and cannot do. Bible gives a hierarchy of gender in the creation adam and eve. Genesis gives two creation of men and women in unison and separately. Men must toil to produce food to survive. Women must produce in sorrow and be subordinate to their husbands in all things. Women eve must get over their natural disobedience. This hierarchy was ordained by god, to resist was against the word of god. Sexual; temptation was viewed as the cause of the fall of man. Disobedience was the cause of the fall its symptom was sex. Order and disorder are very important to early moderns.
