Document Summary
Quantitative trait loci: have allelic variations that make small, qualitative contributions to phenotype. Mapping qtls determines where the the loci are located in the genome. Identi ed using genetic mapping and association of genetic markers with the trait. Statistical methods allow us to identify more than one qtl at a time. Slide 5 - 9: step 1: make an informative cross between inbred individuals. Relatively inbred individuals: the individuals are inbred lines that only differ at the trait of interest. If this is not the case, we cannot do qtl mapping. Pick two strains: one with a high value of the trait, and one with a low value of the trait:! A, b and c loci control fruit size in tomatoes. Isogenic line: pick two inbred individuals that differ only at the loci of interest! In both inbred individuals, vg = 0 , vp = ve.
