Document Summary
Neurons in a circuit are responsible for this. If we"re changing a circuit, we"re looking for change between neurons strongly suggesting that there is a change in neurotransmitter levels for individuals with depression. Interesting phenomena: norepinephrine released from dorsal bundle so it affects many other pathways due to connections/branches. It must mean that things are shrinking but : anterior cingulate cortex (error-related signaling, resting level of activity higher in depressives, amygdala, hyperactive in depressives (and also bigger) anxiety. Arborisation: left pfc (positive mood) decreased activity and size, hpa axis overactive in some depressives but not universal in all causes (remember first theory) We don"t see consistent changes somethings are going up, somethings are going down. Animal models of helplessness: many other animal models becoming more popular, most are similar they involve stress but perhaps the effects are longer lasting (chronic unpredictable stress)
