Document Summary

Definition: an extensive, highly organized knowledge and understanding of a particular domain . Gentile"s (1972) theory: verbal cognitive stage, motor stage, autonomous stage. Results indicated that youth players born from january to march were more likely to be identified as talented and exposed to higher levels of coaching. Players born in new selection year (august to october) were accessed as talented in significantly lower proportions. Height is significantly influence by month of birth: growth variation in spring, minimum in autumn. Barnsley et. al. (1985) demonstrated a strong linear relationship between month of birth and proportion of players in the national hockey league. Players with a relative age advantage over their playing peers also possessed significant developmental advantages (e. g. weight, height, strength) may have impacted on perceived potential and predicted sport success. Talent may be explained by physical precocity and lack of talent by later maturation.
