Contemporary worldview: when we say contemporary worldview, we mean history of science since the 1920s, disciplines, physics, general relativity, cosmology, chemistry, genetics, biology, neuroscience, psychology, Matter and mind: materialism is in contrast to dualism which says that there are purely material objects, spiritual objects, and entities which are of both material and spiritual (i. e. humans) Idealism: there is only one substance the mind: material objects cannot exist without some underlying mental structure, neutral monism: there is only one substance material-spiritual. Monism vs dualism vs pluralism: they only differ in how many substances there are out there, there are 3 different monism varieties; materialism, neutral monism, and idealism. Duality: dualistic determinism dualistic determinism probabilistic determinism. In some situations, there is an infinite number of possible outcomes: probabilistic determinism: all events have their causes, but the same initial conditions may produce different effects.
