Qualitative: discover the truth for the individuals involved in the study, softer difference between issues, do inductive research. Quantitative: reality is objective, reasoning is deductive, compare objective truths, quantify things, determining cause and effect. The standard view: quantitative research is linear logical straight forward and principled, qualitative research is circular obtuse convoluted even unruly. Another view is that qualitative research can be: descriptive or analytical, theoretical and applied. Literature review: some say literature review is only conducted after the dat a has been collected and analyzed, vaoid leading participants in direction of what has already been discovered, some is done before and some afterward. Explicating researchers beliefs: bracketing setting aside ones biases and personal views on a topic or controlling for them. Subject or informant: people being studied are viewed as participant or informant not subject, viewed as active participants. Investigator assumes ignorance of culture or experience beign studied.
