INI201H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Callicles, Dialectic
Document Summary
Callicles: natural justice or the rule of the intelligent over the masses. It is a good to satisfy one"s desires. All that enhances the feeling of power, the will to power, and the power itself in man. The feeling that power is increasing-that resistance has been overcome. Not contentment, but more power; not peace at any price, but war; not virtue, but competence. The first principle of our humanism: the weak and the failures shall perish. They ought even to be helped to perish. The further a thing is from true being, the purer, the better, the lovelier it is. Don"t know how to deal with others in politics or business. Socrates wouldn"t be able to defend self in a court even if accused wrongly. Be involved in politics or business, be able to defend your goods and reputation. Have strong desires and the means to fulfill them.
