HK Action: origins
Cinema began moving from Shanghai to HK in the 1930s.
oBeginnings of Communist Revolution.
o1937 Japan declared war of China, beginning of conquest of China and
beginning of Pacific War.
oMao took over later.
HK action style had its origins in Beijing (Peking) Opera.
oVery specific art form.
oJackie Chan grew up as student of the school of Beijing Opera.
oClip: acrobatic fight sequence.
oInfluenced from this world: spectacular violence.
oAround the 60s/70s, the Beijing Opera declined and cinema took over as mass
entertainment.
