Style is the selection of various medium-specific elements and the deployment of these elements for particular purposes in a systematic fashion. Style can be used to identify the artworks of individuals or groups of artists. Analyzing film style: identify the stylistic elements employed, identify the dominant elements. What is their effect on other elements: explain how the elements interact. The classical style involves the systematic deployment of various elements, all working together in an interdependent manner, to enhance understanding of the narrative. The classical style is a norm of filmmaking practice; some filmmakers deliberately devi- ate from this norm. Propose patterns that are generated through the interactions you have observed. Bordwell and thompson articulate four questions that, when broached sequentially, fa- cilitate the process of analyzing style. In the process it is necessary to think about what is being connoted as well as denoted and to think about the way various techniques or stylistic elements interact with one another.
