For the midterm remember to connect all short answers to the idea of popular culture. In some places graf ti art is celebrated. In most cases graf ti is not treated this way. Rupture of status quo; something that is not authorized; not part of normal thing and by law is illegal. In some ways there is power in breaking a rule. Rules are there to govern society but if you don"t abide by them, then some may argue that you are disobedient (civil disobedience) Laws generally re ect dominant norm/ideas of what should be done in society. Going against them means going against norm. Graf ti helped kids latino/black con ne the ghettos in the combine. Described part in town where jews were allowed to live. Segregated part of town where religious minority forced to live. Dates back to days where us wasn"t even looked at.
