Document Summary
Gg has this serene vision of love. Uses a series of similes to express what love is. Exiled in 1300 by a city government. Involved in politics as much as dante: exiled from florence. Dante (cid:498)priore(cid:499) of that government: donna giovanna (donna vanna) His female muse is giovanna (vanna for short) Uses piercing words to express his emotion. The poem celebrates the moment the poet falls in love: this is typical of the dolce stil novo style, the image of the woman passing through the eyes reaches the heart of the poet. It pierces his heart fainting: the poet is describing an episode in which he feels faint a major role. These are the characters of the drama; the tragedy: there is this idea of wounding rather than gently falling into his heart. The falling love becomes this drama with the vital spirit, the minds, the voice, etc. all playing. The spirits are the senses; the 5 senses.
