Document Summary

Part of the tradition of courtly love and the sweet new style. However also outside of the tradition because of innovations. No palinode series of poet regrets/ recants his love (big change dante introduces) Dante does not stop his ascending motion and never renounces his love for. Beatrice (is a miracle) she is as christ for him as god is for others. Rational soul with out my faithful reason, love never allowed me to go on with out my faithful reason (recantation) Captive soul=addressing himself, belonging to court of love. Guido c. is the first poet to reply. God of love feeds her heart ablaze, in the poem he writes when beatrice greets him when he sees her again. (prose passage): dante makes a big deal of colors, women dressed in white. Dante wrote the poem on the day the signs weren"t clear and the prose was written. 12 years later (when things are clearer and he revisits the poem)
