Prevented by folic acid (vit b12) supplements: recommended for all women of reproductive age, folic acid fortification in grains in 1998, but increased folate is associated with rapid growth of colorectal cancers. Failure of neural tube to close at 3-4 weeks. Complex disorder: two sibling group most at risk. Looks like someone cut ope(cid:374) the (cid:271)a(cid:271)y"s back.
