1= expresses possession
2= the partitive genitive
(expresses a quantity that’s part of a whole)
eg. part of the crowd
functions of the dative:
1= interest/ reference
eg. She does it for her uncle
2= expresses the indirect object
eg. He gives her the pear
3= the special intransitive usage
(the verb is a verb that takes the dative case)
