Theory does not involve the collection of data not empirical but makes use of other findings to then evaluate the theory but can also come up with theory without data, but then will need to test it. Experiments put the children on the spot, test their knowledge in a given time. Advantages allow us to prompt children to say something that they may not normally say. The types of method vary by age of child and domain of research working together to tell you which type of model is best for research. Perceiving and understanding is more difficult because need to get at tacit knowledge and figure out the judgment the children make. Challenges experimental design limited because working with infants and children; Morphological and syntactic development either prompt children to produce structures or assess children"s comprehension of certain sentences. At 10 months of age, no longer universal listener.
