Document Summary
Full repertoire of structures is mostly complete by four to five years. Expect simpler to be produced earlier; more advanced grammatical understanding expected to be later. Difficult is not synonymous with late, but expect to see this correlation. Some factors that are associated with late learned sentences. Less frequent generally learned later than what is more frequent but frequency not only factor. If sentence has non-standard word order, something unusual in the way the sentence is presented, may cause it to be more dififcult to learn. Passive more difficult be cause morphologically difficult/complex. That sentences must have basic sentences first then realize you can put sentences in sentences. Experimental study with children the first example is right-branching. Centre-embedding relative clause second example children find this more difficult because the relative clause disrupts the entire sentence. The right branching one attaches to the object. In processing, the right branching example looks easier.
