Document Summary

*these three didn"t exist as english words - so english just took them. angst - german woord borwwored from there paeteral - i foret. These two do exist in english but angst and paternal may work out differently. *loan words usually have their pronounciation and meaning changed. It is easier for english to fit loan words into its own sound structure bc it is more flexible with sound structure. If you were to use englis words in japanese, it is kinda harder. England was invaded by vikings with their native lanugae then attacked by the french. 2 languages are spoken in the same country makes borrowing more likely. The contact between english and north and english and french made speakers that had lot of opportunities to use their words. It is possible that the amount of north/french borrowings occuring early in history made it easier to borrow more words from different languages down the history line.
