Adjecives are words that stand for a quality and modify nouns the small car a lovely holiday a nice card. In linguisics, the job of a modiier is to difereniate one member from other members of the same class. Car is a common noun and it could refer to any car in the set of all possible car. So, imagine here that this is our set of all possible car. But, noice that when the adjecive small modiies the noun car , we give the car a quality. Now the phrase small car can only refer to a subset of cars, just the small ones. Although adjecives share the funcion of noun modiicaion with other categories, they have disincive characterisics that we will come to know.
