Lower egypt is north because of the direction in which the nile flows. By august the nile begins to rise, goes back down in autumn. Hunger is on account of geography whereas famine is usually man made. Shorter growing season because water takes longer to go away. Sometimes marked how high the nile was on the walls, took info to govt, to determine how much food would be harvested.
