Kemet, the black land (the irrigated and sown land; the cultivated land = egypt) Deshret, the red land (the desert; also foreign; chaotic lands ) Modern word egypt derives from arabic qubt which is derived from greek. Egypt is a long/narrow land, to the egyptians it s also the two lands (tawy) Lower egypt (delta) -> cairo to mediterranean = 160 km. Upper egypt (nile) -> aswan to cairo = 720 km. 1. 2 the importance of geography in the egyptians mind. White nile -> flows through lake victoria in uganda. Blue nile -> flows from lake tana in ethiopia (two niles meet at khartoum in sudan)
