Devoted buddhist are supposed to live a life outside our society concerns. Monks and nuns live in the forest inside the temple outside the city reach, living in a very simple life, no any career plan, no money making, not bothered by political power. Enlightenment is a stage; they have the wisdom to perceive the reality. No longer be trapped in the cycle of living and dying (samsara) You die and will be reincarnating to other living being: human/animal/ghost/in hell. Indian also believe that having a life is always a burden, there are so much suffering, indians were mostly slaves decades ago. They viewed life is a very pessimistic way, living a life without purposes. Having a life is not always a blessed thing. Notion of attaining enlightenment liberated in samsara. Approach to end suffering one who back off himself from all the social responsibility, power, money etc. Buddhism to some people are not socially engaged.
