Document Summary
Obesity and cancer: observational studies, the cancers with the most research attention (colorectal and breast) Prostate cancer has not been shown to be correlated to obesity. Obese patients may not respond to treatment as well as their lean counterparts. The cell de-differentiates stop functioning as their own cells and just become rapidly growing (proliferative) cells: they do(cid:374)"t respo(cid:374)d to (cid:374)or(cid:373)al signals that cells have. Apoptosis is the ultimate step that the cell takes to get rid of damaged cells: completely kills the cells, but this does(cid:374)"t happe(cid:374) i(cid:374) (cid:272)a(cid:374)(cid:272)er. Insulin and estrogen: promote cell growth (healthy or unhealthy cells) Estrogen circulates in the blood bound to protein. When it is circulating in free form it is more of a stimulant to cell growth. In the liver the shbg decreases and increases free estrogen. Increases adipose tissue mass: site of estrogen synthesis. In the post menopausal woman this is a significant source of estrogen in the body.
