Document Summary

Is used to identify ion channels from particular tissues, take a tissue that expresses a group of channels we want to isolate, isolate the rna and use reverse transcriptase-> cloned. Dna-> pcr -> lots of copies of the dna. Dna promoter (bacteria phage- a virus that infects and replicates in bacteria) infect bacteria with virus with gene of interest. Bacteria now has gene of interest and the bacteria begins making the dna we want. The gene inserted also encodes resistance to a particular antibiotic (penicillin). Recombinant receptors are expressed in shell cells that are similar to balloons. Cells that are isolated from tumor cell line are used as model cells (regenerate quickly). Human embryonic kidney cells are used as shell cells and are given dna (ion channel dna) of interest (transfection). As they express the dna we get protein product and allows us to manipulate the cells.
