BEHAVIORISM Refers to a school of theories THey had in common an aversion to dualism methodological commitment that psychology should schew something to intraspection. IN history of psychology, you see descartes views having a tremendous influence. Many thought that the range of options was exhausted by descartes and his nemesis hobbes. INTROSPECTION: THe ability to turn the mental eye inward upon itself. Associationist Psychology based on introspection. Philosophers and Psychologists in the early 20th century began to worry about a “science” based on introspection. It is private. SURELY, any realy science must be based on evidence that’s publicly accessible. Afew psychologists took this aversion introspection to its extreme. They said there is no such thing as mental states. We talk as if they do, but we’re wrong. What does exist are patterns of publicly observable stimulus and response. Stimulus response. We won’t talk about this extreme version of behavioirsm. LOGICAL BEHAVIORISM: Statements involving mental vocabulary something physical. Analytical behaviorism? physical behavior: change of a body in relation to its environment adjential behavior?:
