PHL100Y1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 40: Presupposition, Friedrich Nietzsche, Hyperbole
Document Summary
Christianity"s humility is coupled with the hypocritical feeling that god cares specifically about them, about everything they do at every minute. Its often contrasted with religion- says that it believes in itself alone, has utterly no faith in itself today, it is the most recent and noble form of the ascetic ideal. But ideas get found to be false all the time, so does it really believe in itself. You cant think however radically without taking certain things for granted after all o just from rules, but also from truth: truth is just one more metaphysical dogma, that its not valuable in itself. If you try to proclaim absolute freedom, you have to declare that you"re free not. In order to investigate a question scientifically, there"s an enormous amount of stuff you have to take for granted, the instruments actually working, the experiment actually being relevant, etc.
