PHL271H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Honor Killing, Dwarfism, Dwarf-Tossing
Document Summary
There was a ban in dwarf tossing in which wackenheim appealed. Wackenheim won, but the ban stayed because according to the council, it violate dignity. It reduces dwarfs to a public spectacle for other people s amusement: this is based on their appearance or a part of their appearance which they can"t control, they are also marginalized as a group because of this. Whose dignity does it violate all other dwarves: we can"t just account for wackenheim"s opinion, we also have to consider all other dwarves" dignity. It"s patronizing to of the municipalities to say that someone that is consenting is willing to work, can"t do that work. It"s patronizing, in just interfering with the choice of dwarves, it implies that they don"t trust the dwarves to choose the right thing, and it would imply that the dwarves are worth less. It imposes the dominant group"s view of what is dignified.
