-sustainablity
-rights of future generations
-far more toxic substances being used in industry.. and seems to be progressive.
-global warming (human cause)

-global warming would be much much worse if we were also poisoining ourself with ....

www.notesolution.com
-moral decision making about the environment will be of the forms we hav ebeen looking at
so far:
-weigh the different sorts of moral duties by the reply
-CBA - external and internal costs --> then do a sum
-human welfare or human well-being --> consistent to have one's life go well.. in
estimation
-CBA its cost on human welfare or human well-being... if it effects it negatively then its a
harm...
-estimate the intristic of human wel being and treat the environment as an instrument for
human wellbeing --> the means to our good
-moral duties are duties owned to other persons
-the environmental issues would be the non-jury principle
-the distinction abt types of good.. intristically good (well-being we value for its own sake) or
it could be instrumental (means to the intristically good)
-should we treat the environment of having just instrumental value??
-there may be effects on the environment that doesnt effect us... but its still stated as being
"bad"
-Audi --> unsatisfactory. --> could treat the environment as an intristic good
-aesthetically (sun..)
-beauty of nature... god
-independent value
www.notesolution.com
-Hoffman pg 174-175
-the choices to cut down the tree... the moral critiques
-if we think its not wrong to cut off the tree..
-if we do think its wrong to cut off the tree... independent value to himself
-cut down... keeps him warm of a night--> no value independent of him
-not cut down.. has a vlue independent to him
-the serious weaknesses and problems of _____
-concerned with what's good with us (humans)
-egocentric good and other egocentric good.. the fact that there is a good for us.. can
not be justified that there are no goods for others...
-the good collectively for humans.. is certainly good for us.. but cannot be said that
there aren't values outside of our own goods
-anthropocentric biocentric
homocentric (homo- human)
these are values centered on us required by living things to survive... the
environment
-if we took human rights and interests as paramount... theres no point to destroy... even if
theres no use for us
-so we can destroy the stream and kill the fish even IF it doesnt harm us... but the fish
deserves some kind of consideration ):
-biocentric value
-life has such intristic value... that as long as sth is alive... it holds intristic value
