Document Summary

Buddhism in canada cannot survive if it relies on rst generation immigrants. A notion existing up to current days in some indian and chinese communities: women are born as such because of bad karmic past. The buddha was welcomed in the city due to religious di erences, so he retreated back to the forest and built a community including both men and women. The untouchables were not even considered in the caste system, and they were mainly people who dealt with dead bodies ( shermen, hunter, etc. ) People would not want to share anything with an untouchable. Buddha was one of the rst spiritual leader to accept everybody into the community amp promote equality within. However, we should note that the buddha was in a good position to bring out the teachings to the public > he was an upper class and was the heir to the throne. In a sense, buddhism ethics does not exist.
