In ir, material inequality is looked at from the international political economy (ipe) perspective: linking economics with politics to explain winners and losers/haves and have-nots. The ipe perspective thus determines economic outcomes via politics and vice versa: states, groups within states, such as skilled vs. unskilled labour and other economic sectors, transnational groups/institutions, such as the wtf, imf, world bank, etc. Ipe only gained prominence during the 1970s, when economic crises and rising economic powers gained attention. Issues ipe concerns itself include: trade, currency exchange and monetary policy, international nance and capital ows, justice in the distribution of economic bene ts.
