Document Summary

Lecture 9: cardiovascular system relation of cardovascular to hypertension, heart failure & exercise. Blood pressure cycles over a 24-hour period: extrinsic factors. Hypotension: hypotension low blood pressure, in which systolic pressure is below 100 mmhg. Addison"s disease disorder in which adrenal glands do not produce sufficient steroid hormones, including aldosterone (need for salt and water retention to raise bp: acute hypotension important sign of circulatory shock. Circulatory shock circulatory failure resulting in low cardiac output and falling blood peripheral pressure; inadequate oxygen supply to tissues and organs. Threat to patients undergoing surgery and those in intensive care units. Results from known diseases processes that affect blood flow: e. g. endocrine disorder that causes fluid retention. Damage to tissue that results in release of vasoactive chemicals. Damage to sympathetic nervous system, etc: consequences of hypertension.
