Document Summary
The role of experience in motivation was a big part of disproving pure behaviourism. Rewarding monkeys to play with puzzle boxes made it less fun and more work . It activates a different top-down process, a different schema. The continuum/theory put forward that a person can be more strongly motivated by looking at things differently. The continuum shows how much a goal is coming from within or from external pressures. A goal is always carried out by personal will, but the actual origin of the goal can be external/internal (e. g. wanting to go to university) | extrinsic relatively intrinsic. | external introjected identi ed integrated intrinsic not self-determined self-determined. Our world is build in a largely operant way creates conditional self-acceptance , our okayness is very connected to external motivation. External regulation: operant conditioning, authority, social pressure etc. Very powerful, easy to operationalize, applies to work, social settings, family. Doesn"t work as well for perseverance, genuine motivation.
