Document Summary

Someone asks to cut the line to make a photocopy because they"re in a rush. The same proportion of people who said yes to someone who was late to cut in line, said yes to someone who didn"t need to rush. If someone were to come in carrying a lot of things to copy, almost everyone would say no to cutting in line, no matter how late they were. This is because in the condition where someone is in a rush, you play on a heuristic/ top down process, that when someone explains something, allows you to find a meaning. Usually when some one says i need to do this because blah blah blah , you go into autopilot because the excuse has meaning to it. When on autopilot, you want your brain to work efficiently - you don"t want to think with effort. Intuitively, you would guess that the professor matches the description.
