Document Summary
We have the tools to unpack something very big. Psychologists mainly go into the field because they want to help and understand people. We develop, not with blank slates, but also not with a lot of cognitive architecture. Babies actually complexly reason: they have preferences- opinions- moral judgements. Recall the experiment where a cat grew up in a box with horizontal or vertical lines. Babies, too, do not have a lot of preexisting habits, the conditions they are in lays the biology of their consciousness. They get raw material feedback from the world, from which the context for neurobiology develops. Important feedback: this is emotionally relevant because the amygdala tells the hippocampus what memories to consolidate. Anything that activates the emotional amygdala will be processed deeply. The emotional feedback that occurs within the first few lives of a human defines them. In some cultures, people find kids to turn into demons during the terrible twos .
