Document Summary

Women participate in therapy more often than men as well as people aged 35-55. In canada, asian canadians and ppl of native descent are less likely to seek treatment than caucasians. Therapy is more relative to ppl in north america than countries like israel, japan, hungary and korea. 2/3 of ppl don"t seek help due to ambiguity of disorders, they minimize their issues they are motivated not to see themselves as mentally ill or they don"t trust psychological/psychiatric professions (skepticism) Greater pressure on men not to have mental health issues > gender roles and issues with masculinity. There are professional and social costs when others know some has or has had psychological disorders. Treatment is expensive > less available to ppl lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Clinical psychologists: have a phd, able to formally diagnose and treat mental health issues ranging from the everyday and mild to the chronic and severe. Clinical social workers and psychiatric nurses may also conduct therapy.
