Stereotyping is a very good example of top down processing. Schema guide how we perceive, how we will in th blanks are activated by the activation of a schema. When you are biased, you will notice more things that support your bias and not notice as many things that contradict your bias. Bias means that we have a higher probability of shifting your perception in favour of your bias. Schemas bias you to perceive a world that supports your bias. Fundamentally no different from any concepts ( an abstraction, comprised of interconnected beliefs, that organizes our perceptions and guides cognitive, affective and behavioural processes). When something is on our mind, it biases us in that direction.
