Emotion in intelligence, ability to zero in on relevant information was very important, and one of the key functions of attention was to screen off irrelevant information and/or make relevant information more salient. A central way in which we zero in on information and make it salient is by having emotional responses to environmental stimuli. We care about (or are concerned with) some info. and give it priority because of our emotions. Are powerful way we are concerned about some info, the way we give it priority. Are not just feelings; are ways we prioritize info, the ways we zero in on relevant info. This brings up an important point about emotions and how important they are to our cognition. Believed that emotions were the main things that interfered with us being rational and being intelligent. There was an idea that emotions are opposite of intelligence and region. And used emotional as synonym for irrational.
